Porto/Post/Doc presents Come Closer by Toyota, a seven-film programme taking place from 9 to 15 August as part of the parallel programme of Vodafone Paredes de Coura. Screenings will be held daily at 2.00 pm at the Centro Cultural de Paredes de Coura, with free admission.
The programme brings together films presented at recent editions of Porto/Post/Doc, offering different perspectives on memory, territory, displacement, architecture, war and cultural creation.
The programme begins on 9 August with “Gods of Stone”, by Iván Castiñeiras Gallego, a film rooted in the Galician territory and the transformation of its landscapes and communities. The following day, “Between Revolutions”, by Vlad Petri, draws on the correspondence between two women separated by the revolutions in Iran and Romania.
On 11 August, “Bye Bye Tiberias”, by Lina Soualem, revisits the memories of four generations of Palestinian women through the filmmaker’s family history. This is followed, on 12 August, by “Rule of Stone”, by Danae Elon, a film about Jerusalem and the relationship between architecture, space, power and identity.
On 13 August, the programme presents “E.1027: Eileen Gray and the House by the Sea”, by Beatrice Minger and Christoph Schaub, dedicated to the modernist house designed by Eileen Gray and the disputes surrounding its history. On 14 August, “Little Syria”, by Mădălina Roșca and Reem Karssli, follows a Syrian community rebuilding its life in exile. The programme concludes on 15 August with “Filhos do Meio: South Side Hip Hop Stories”, by Luís Almeida, a portrait of hip-hop culture and the communities that gave it a voice in Portugal.
Come Closer is Porto/Post/Doc’s year-round touring programme. Throughout the year, the initiative brings films presented at the festival to film societies, cultural associations, academic institutions and other screening venues, expanding access to independent and auteur cinema beyond the usual festival calendar.
The programme in Paredes de Coura marks the beginning of a new collaboration with Toyota Portugal and strengthens the relationship between cinema, music and territory.
