Almost a century separates some of the images brought together in “In Between Images”, a programme that looks at Porto through cinema and the city’s own transformations. From Manoel de Oliveira’s “Working on the Douro River” to films made in the 2000s, the selection moves between documentary and fiction, placing different periods in dialogue. Labour, popular cultures, buildings, streets, the river and everyday movement become traces of passing time. Some gestures endure, others have disappeared; certain places remain recognisable, while others survive only in images. Bringing together several generations of filmmakers, “In Between Images” reveals the many cities that continue to coexist within present-day Porto.
The programme is presented in partnership with Malha.Porto, Património de Pessoas.
