Education Programme

All year round!

Since 2016, Porto/Post/Doc Cultural Association has been developing the School Trip, an annual education programme aimed at schools in Porto and Greater Porto, covering all levels from early childhood to upper secondary education. At the same time, it promotes strategies to include families and children in the festival’s screenings.

In a context marked by an accelerated visual culture, intensified by periods of lockdown that further distanced audiences from cinemas and festivals, our mission is focused on creating and strengthening the connection between young people and cinema as a cultural experience. We seek to democratise access to cinema, ensuring that children and young people have opportunities to develop visual literacy, critical thinking, and communication and civic skills through creative workshops.

The strong engagement of schools in the region allows us to maintain continuous and collaborative work with students, teachers, artists, filmmakers and other cultural agents. This ongoing dialogue fosters the sharing of good practices and diverse perspectives, which are reflected in the creative workshops we develop. Each workshop pays special attention to the relationship between young people and the urban space, encouraging them to creatively explore their everyday experiences in cities, towns, and neighbourhoods. The School Trip goes beyond simply promoting cinema, establishing itself as a sustainable and collective path for valuing film language as an artistic and social tool, with significant impact on the cultural and personal development of participants.

The activities developed within the programme include a diverse set of creative workshops, training actions, and strategic partnerships, which structure and sustain its educational intervention:

· Cinema Notebooks (ISCED 0),
· Shadow Words (ISCED 1),
· Correspondences (ISCED 2 and 3),
· Traditions in Transition (ISCED 2),
· Steps within the City (ISCED 2 and 3),
· Creatures of Light: Experimental Film Workshop (ISCED 3),
· Short-Term Training for Education Professionals,
· Docs4Teens.

Alongside a wide network of tutors and institutional partners that enhance the quality and reach of the project.
