“In a Whisper”, by Catarina Couto Gonçalves, is part of the Novíssimos section of the 2026 edition of IndieLisboa – International Film Festival. The film continues its national festival journey after its international circulation in 2025.

Previously presented at Sheffield Doc/Fest, the film builds its approach around the language of breathing, developing a soundscape and a narrative centred on the experience of a young figure skater. Through black-and-white cinematography and a work grounded in the articulation between image and sound, it proposes a restrained register, focused on the physical and emotional dimension of gesture.

In 2025, “In a Whisper” was distinguished at Porto/Post/Doc, where it won the Cinema Novo Canal180 Award, within the Cinema Falado Competition, as well as the MAD Award, granted to a director from that section. The jury, composed of Beatrice Minger, Peter Mack and Rita Capucho, highlighted the film’s formal consistency and sensory construction.

The selection in IndieLisboa’s Novíssimos section continues the film’s festival trajectory, reinforcing its presence on the Portuguese circuit after its premiere and first international presentations.
