The jury of the first edition of Working Class Heroes selected the project Time takes a cigarette, proposed by director Aya Koretzky. According to Luís Urbano, Susana Menezes and Stefano Savio, the choice results from the potential that it opens in the construction of an original device to tell Porto stories. “It’s a proposal that establishes a clear aesthetic vision that we believe is capable of generating a work of artistic relief facing a theme of interest and intimately related to the city of Porto.” they point out.
Organized by Porto/Porto/Doc, with the support of Filmaporto, Working Class Heroes has the mission of supporting audiovisual production in the city of Porto, with recourse to local technicians and stories from the city. Along with Aya Koretzky, Eloy Dominguez Serén and Tânia Dinis were invited to participate in this first edition.
The selected final work will take the form of a film (fiction, animation, essay, documentary or experimental work) about the working community of Porto, to be made and produced during a residency of the filmmaker in the city of Porto, at the third place not the year of 2023.
