Two sessions of great cinema classics mark the return of Há Filmes na Baixa! to Passos Manuel in Porto. On June 9 and 22, the film cycle programmed by the Porto/Post/Doc festival proposes a revisit to Ran, by Akira Kurosawa, and Apocalypse Now - Final Cut, by Francis Ford Coppola. Tickets may be purchased directly at the theater's box office starting at 7pm. Prices vary between 2 and 5 euros, depending on the existence of applicable discounts.
RAN, by Akira Kurosawa (1985)

A reinterpretation of William Shakespeare's 'King Lear'. The Lear counterpart is an elderly 16th-century warlord (Tatsuya Nakadai), who announces that he's about to divide his kingdom equally among his three sons. In his dotage, he falls prey to the false flattery of his treacherous sons (Akira Terao and Jinpachi Nezu), while banishing his youngest son (Daisuke Ryu), the only member of the family who loves him enough to tell him the unvarnished truth. Thanks to his foolish pride, his domain collapses under its own weight as the sons battle each other over total control.
APOCALYPSE NOW - FINAL CUT, by Francis Ford Coppola (1979/2019)
Tuesday, June 22, 2021, 7:30pm
During the Vietnam War, the young American Captain Willard is given the assignment to hunt down and kill one of his own: Colonel Kurtz who has apparently gone insane, murdered hundreds of innocent people, and constructed a strange kingdom for himself deep in the jungle. Willard and his crew embark on a surreal river journey to find Kurtz, meeting along the way a Lieutenant-Colonel who surfs during live combat, Playboy bunnies dropped in by helicopter to entertain rowdy troops, and the inhabitants of a French plantation trapped in colonial times.
