In Porto, Manoel de Oliveira takes Jean Rouch to the Maria Pia bridge before the two filmmakers follow the Douro towards the sea. Oliveira writes a poem, recited alternately in Portuguese and French, as their route evokes Camões, Henry the Navigator and the river’s history. Through friendship and memory, the film becomes a reflection on cinema and the creation of new images.
