Beyond the territory where the films were produced or shot, a tacit pact unites them in a silent bond. Even if we don't know exactly what happens, we can guess that they cross paths somewhere. In the case of the films that concern us today, we are dealing with different perspectives. They don't see the same thing, but they don't pretend to either. The meeting point is a non-negotiable commitment to cinema, as well as to their own points of view. It is in the conversations between them, also when they look at each other furtively and can see the eraser of someone else's notebook, that a cartography of contemporary Spanish cinema is drawn. When Fellini was asked about the group of filmmakers who made up Italian Neorealism, he would reply that he always had a marvellous lunch at Visconti's house. Perhaps the key to everything lies there, in finding a kind of chaos that allows us to achieve freedom. Perhaps Spain is the pretext, perhaps Spain is the possible vertex on which this cinema in movement is based. (Miquel Escudero Diéguez)
