Soon after the end of the Second World War, Portugal, a neutral country, took in numerous children from the destroyed countries, namely Austria. Seven decades later, the filmmakers went in search of these former Austrian children, their memories and their traumas. Composed entirely of archive footage and the voices of the interviewees, Journey into the Sun recalls a particular moment in European history that has multiple resonances with the current refugee crisis.
The film premiered in the International Competition of IDFA - International Documentary Film Festival of Amsterdam.
This session also screens Waters and Mirrors directed by Mariana Caló and Francisco Queimadela.
