Letting Andrey Tarkovsky tell the story himself (through some extremely rare audio recordings), the documentary recounts his life and work, as he shares with us his memories, his view of art and his reflections on the destiny of the artist and the meaning of human existence. The account is accompanied by previously unreleased recordings of poems by Arseny Tarkovsky, the director’s father, read by the author. Arseny’s poetry had always influenced Andrey’s movies, underlining the profound cultural and spiritual bond between father and son. Directed by Andrey Tarvosky’s son, the film is made up of excerpts taken from the director’s works, rare photos and videos shot in the countries where Tarskovy has lived and worked, such as Russia, Sweden and Italy, his adoptive home.
