The Chinese artist Xu Bing threw himself into an old obsession: to gather thousands of images of surveillance cameras to build a narrative. Thus was born Dragonfly Eyes, an incredible experience of contemporary life and its radical presence. When we see these images, successively, it seems that we are seeing ourselves, our day-to-day and our interdicts. Bing even builds a love story that survives the random montage of this archive of human existence. At bottom, what transpires from these images (and they were all recorded before the film existed) is that our world is capable of the sublime, but also of the most terrible violence. And the fact that the images speak of our own experience makes us feel that the cruelty of Bing's gesture is precisely where we are this film. (Daniel Ribas)
