The characters are fictitious, the relationships are non-existent, the emotions are a farce, the dialogues are an improvisation, the story is created: (however) this film is (not) a fiction. The reality that arises from fiction is one part and the fiction that emerges from reality is another: both are a constant (sometimes incomprehensible, confusing, but equally obvious and direct) in this film/experiment directed by Rouch, with an interracial group of students from Abidjan, the Ivorian capital. This is a real story that raises questions of gender, race, and politics but, above all, inevitable and representative issues of human relationships: a turbulent sea that oscillates permanently - both for good and for evil. A portrait of a society, of an (in)humanity that we still recognize today, which still defines us today and shows us daily that love is not yet our salvation. (Teresa Vieira)
