PORTUGUESE PREMIERE
This is a film about survival. On the one hand, an armed group that patrols the US borders, in an area known as "Cocaine Valley"; on the other, the formation of self-defense militias formed by the doctor José Meireles for fighting the drug cartel "Los Caballeros Templarios". Matthew Heineman filmed where few have ventured filming, following two parallel stories on the border between Mexico and the US. It is a political documentary that exposes the weaknesses in the system and where human life has very little value. Cartel Land is a journey through the heart of darkness, a film in which one responds to violence with violence, a closed cycle from which there seems to be no exit. (Pedro Neves)
