Ivo M. Ferreira, Marta Popivoda and Nuno Boaventura Miranda are the invited filmmakers for Working Class Heroes 2026, the Porto/Post/Doc programme dedicated to developing new film projects about the city of Porto.
Developed in partnership with Filmaporto – Porto Film Commission and with the support of the “la Caixa” Foundation, through the CaixaForum+ platform, Working Class Heroes awards a €75,000 grant for the development and production of a new film about Porto. In each edition, projects by three filmmakers are presented to an international jury, which selects one of them to be developed and produced over a two-year period, with its world premiere at Porto/Post/Doc.
More than a production grant, the programme seeks to bring filmmakers closer to local communities, creating conditions to listen, research and uncover different stories, memories and experiences that shape contemporary Porto. The city is understood simultaneously as a territory of research, a space for encounter and a subject for filmmaking.

Ivo M. Ferreira A filmmaker whose work revisits contemporary Portuguese history, bringing together intimate memory, political violence and colonial legacy. He directed “Letters from the War” and “Empire Hotel” and is currently preparing “The Magicians of the Empire”. |

Marta Popivoda A filmmaker, artist and researcher working between Berlin and Belgrade, she explores the relationships between memory, history, ideology, and collective and individual bodies. Working from feminist and queer perspectives, her practice spans cinema and visual arts. |

Nuno Boaventura Miranda A Cape Verdean filmmaker, he develops a sensory language centred on human narratives and invisible stories that shape places. He directed “Kmêdeus” and “The Last Harvest” and is currently developing his first feature film, “The Flowers of the Dead”. |
