“Romería”, the new film by Carla Simón, opens today, 2 April, in Portuguese cinemas, distributed by Alambique.

Presented in the Official Competition at the Cannes Film Festival, the film was also the opening film of Porto/Post/Doc 2025, where it had its Portuguese premiere on 20 November, at Batalha Centro de Cinema. The screening was attended by actor Mitch Martín, who introduced the film to the audience.

In “Romería”, Carla Simón returns to central themes in her work, such as memory, family and identity, following a young woman who revisits her family’s past and confronts silences, absences and old wounds.

Its commercial release in Portugal now extends the trajectory of a film that confirms Carla Simón as one of the most significant voices in contemporary European cinema.
