Almost a hundred years ago, Manoel de Oliveira found the rhythm of a city in the Douro and the gestures of work. In Working on the Douro River, the river was a place of passage, livelihood and encounter. Since then, Porto’s relationship with the Douro has changed, and other images have emerged to question the city. Moving between documentary and fiction, In Between Images brings together different perspectives on Porto and those who inhabit it. From work to popular culture, from the streets to the memories of those who walk them, these films reveal a city that changes, but also resists, reinvents itself and tells its stories in many ways.
