by Porto/Post/Doc / 29 10 2017

The Press Conference to present the 4th edition of Porto/Post/Doc: Film & Media Festival will take place next Tuesday, October 31, 2017, at 11:00 am, at Café Rivoli.

Dario Oliveira, director of Porto/Post/Doc, Tiago Guedes, director of the Municipal Theater of Porto, José Paiva, director of the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Porto, and Manuel Pinheiro, chairman of the Viniculture Commission of the Vinho Verde Region, will be present. In the session, there will also be some programmers, partners and filmmakers who are part of the 4th edition of the Festival.

The cinema of the real is back in Porto with another edition of Porto/Post/Doc: Film & Media Festival, from November 27 to December 3, 2017. As a meeting point for creators, audiences and film professionals, Porto/Post/Doc has as main objective to promote film culture, screening new forms of contemporary cinema.

Starting from the idea that the cinema itself is a kind of archive of human memory, Porto/Post/Doc 2017 will have as its central theme the Archive and the Memory. For this, the Festival will focus on films that use archival footage, but also it will feature old films that allow our memory to find other worlds and other emotions. Focuses will be dedicated to Jean Rouch, the mythical French author, of whom we celebrate the 100th anniversary of his birth and whose films have recently been restored; and Post-Memory, with a set of films that use archival footage to reinterpret History (this focus, which includes a cinema programme and the Forum of the Real, is done in partnership with the Center for Social Studies of the University of Coimbra ).

With an eclectic philosophy, consisting of an International Competition and several parallel programmes (such as Transmission, for documentaries on music and night parties, or the Forum of the Real, with debates with experts and academics), the festival will occupy some of the main cultural spaces of Porto (Teatro Municipal do Porto - Rivoli, Faculty of Fine Arts U.Porto, Cinema Passos Manuel and Maus Hábitos), a historic and cosmopolitan city, center of a vibrant community with a trendy nightlife.

In 2017, Porto/Post/Doc will once again focus on a programme that promotes the construction of a community of people around a cultural event of international projection. The primary objective is, therefore, to promote the sharing of experiences, making it through the cinema of the real, between documentary and fiction. This proposal is open to a programme that is developed for different audiences, such as our Educative Project School Trip (with special sessions for schools) and Doc is the New Black (sessions in which fashion culture is the protagonist).

Porto/Post/Doc 2017 will feature more than 70 film screenings and will feature about 100 films, 5 concerts, 7 parties, 4 masterclasses, 15 screenings for schools. Of the films to be presented, 50 are Portuguese, of which about half were made in school projects. Argentina, France, Paraguay, Germany, Qatar, Guinea Bissau, Czech Republic, Spain, Lebanon, Syria, UAE, Belgium, Holland, Slovenia, Italy, Croatia, Norway, UK, Switzerland, Chile, Turkey, Brazil, Denmark, Sweden and China are some of the countries represented in the film programme and Festival guests.

Porto/Post/Doc will again count on the presence of around 200 national and international guests, including directors, producers, directors of other festivals, journalists and partner entities.

The Festival has the support of the Porto Municipality and the Viticulture Commission of the Vinho Verde Region (CVRVV).

For the third consecutive year, the Vinho Verde Region plays the role of patron underlining an important contribution in the consolidation of Porto/Post/Doc as an international film festival. The CVRVV's support will also allow awarding the main prize of the festival - the Great Prize Porto/Post/Doc by Vinhos Verdes.
